Ottobock

Jana Middlebrook graduated as an Orthotist from the University of Strathclyde in 2012. Originally
working within the NHS she developed a specialist interest in Neurological Orthotics and MDT
working. When a rare opportunity to become an Ottobock Orthotic Academy Clinician became
available she jumped at the chance to work for a global leader in Prosthetics and Orthotics.
On a weekly basis Jana provides education, training and product support to NHS and private
practice clinics across the UK. She specialises as the Clinical Certification Trainer for Bioness FES
systems throughout the UK and Ireland and in her spare time sits on the Professional Affairs
Committee for the British Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists helping to develop the
profession and its vital role in the UK’s health service.

Beyond the realms of possibility? Exploring your patients’ full potential through individually tailored Orthotics and FES.

Functional Electrical Stimulation and Orthotics are widely used in acute and long term
Neurological Rehab. Often they are seen as short term mobility aids that should be disposed of as
soon as possible in the rehabilitation process.
What we should be asking is How can we utilise; well designed, adaptable and progressive devices
in conjunction with therapy to maximise our patient’s long-term potential?
