Associate Professor of Neurosurgery
Professor Green is the Spalding Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences, University of Oxford. He is a practicing Functional Neurosurgeon with an interest in the use of Neuromodulation to alter the Autonomic Nervous System and Pain. He has investigated the effects of Deep Brain Stimulation on Blood Pressure, Bladder Function, and Respiratory Function and is currently running a first-in-man study on Deep Brain Stimulation of the Pedunculopontine Nucleus for autonomic symptoms in Multiple System Atrophy. His research also focuses on bioelectronic development. He has over 190 peer-reviewed publications, two books, and multiple book chapters.
Neuromodulation of the Autonomic Nervous System
There has been a rapid expansion in Bioelectronic devices aimed at modulating human physiology in disease. Neuromodulation involves changing the activity of either the brain, spinal cord, or peripheral nerves and is commonly used for pain and movement disorders. Autonomic neuromodulation uses this principle to alter aspects of the autonomic nervous system such as blood pressure (hypertension), autonomic failure, and recently for conditions such as heart failure.
