How video vector Gait Laboratories help to optimise orthotic outcomes

A video vector Gait Laboratory uses sophisticated cameras that synchronise with a force measurement plate. The plate measures the force being applied to it during walking. It measures force as three components allowing a vector (graphical representation) of the force to be projected onto an image from the camera. Understanding where the force is positioned in relation to the leg is essential for accurate fine tuning of lower limb orthotics. And it provides an objective measurement of treatment outcomes. You would not expect a midwife to work without an ultrasound machine , similarly an orthotist needs a gait laboratory to prescribe, make and fit optimally aligned orthotics.
