Thuasne Masterclass

Macrogeometry and the optimised design and function in Composite AFOs.

We outline how Thuasne created unique, elegant, and beautifully designed orthoses based on engineering and scientific principles.

This presentation will discuss data from two recent case studies and how this can help the prescriber to formulate a treatment plan by applying the fundamentals of today’s scientific knowledge. After this session you will begin to envisage the advanced application of biomechanical and neurological needs of the end user, whilst using today’s buzzword material: Carbon Composites.

Clinical differentiation and prescription choice

Considerations and simple assessment techniques to help you choose the most appropriate orthosis for end-user presentation and wishes.

This session will discuss when to use a particular style of AFO based on presentation, assessment and social circumstances. We will help you differentiate the “why” and also guide you on “how” to ensure value based treatment and outcomes.

Sprystep AFO Family fitting and tuning; best practices.

A stock AFO is often a good start for an optimsed outcome, but can often be improved by simple modifications, without advanced machinery or skills. This is a key design specification of the Sprystep Family.

You have chosen the correct AFO, but you are not totally convinced that it is working to 100% of its potential? We will show how, without advanced tools or skills, altering the function of the afo/shoe combination and, hence, the timing and position of the centre of pressure you will positively affect function in neuro and neuro-orthopaedic groups.

David Buchanan BSc(Hons), FFPM RCPS(Glasg.) MBAPO. David originally trained as an aircraft engineer but requalified as a Prosthetist and Orthotist in 1999. As a Fellow of Podiatric Medicine in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow; he undertakes research and development within and outwith Thuasne and teaches globally within his professional and commercial spheres. He is a member of BAPOs Executive Committee and the Allied Health Proffessions Federation Policy Officers Group.
