The United Kingdom Acquired Brain Injury Forum (UKABIF) aims to promote better understanding of all aspects of ABI; to educate, inform and provide networking opportunities for professionals, service providers, planners and policy makers and to campaign for better services in the UK.
Our primary role to raise awareness of acquired brain injury
To fulfil this role we have a campaigning function. To see the details of our campaign Life After Brain Injury please click here. We also provide educational opportunities through our annual conferences and workshops; attend and exhibit at relevant Brain Injury Conferences; use our Website and Social Media to raise awareness of acquired brain injury; produce information and networking opportunities for our members; use the Media to raise awareness and aim to influence policy and commissioning.
We also work very hard to support and nurture the network of regional groups around the country. The groups meet regularly to offer networking events and to support ABI services in their area. You can see a full list of the groups by on our Regional Groups section.
Amanda Swain is our policy lead and she works hard with government agencies and associated lobbying organisations to keep acquired brain injury on the agenda. Prof Mike Barnes and Mike Hope are also very involved with policy development.
Here are some of the groups we work with:
• The National Leadership Group
• The Clinical Reference Group
• East of England Clinical Senate
• The Neurological Alliance
• National Voices
• The Primary Care Neurology Alliance
We also provide a signposting service by phone, email and through our website to direct people to the information they need.
